No*Fresh Plateau Attack Claims 10, Over 20 Killed in a Week*

A deadly raid of five villages of Plateau State’s Bokkos Local Government Area killed not less than 10 persons, taking the region’s death toll to over 20 in just a week.

The Wednesday’s attack was coming six days after a similar onslaught in the Ruwi village that left 10 dead and another three injured when they were hit by assailants during a wake-keep ceremony.

Mongor, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai villages were attacked by the marauders, as reported by Farmasum Fuddang, the Chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC).

Security forces repelled the attackers in Mongor and Daffo, but they managed to carry out their attacks in other villages.

The BCDC chairman protested against the rising fatalities, giving examples that over 20 people from the community were murdered within one week.

“On April 2 alone, over 10 people were killed. We salute the Nigerian army and police for acting quickly, ensuring casualties remained low,” he continued.

The BCDC has called on emergency agencies, such as NEMA, SEMA, and the Nigerian Red Cross, to provide aid to injured and displaced victims. The organization also extended their deepest condolences to the victims of the attack and requested citizens to remain peaceful and calm.

Plateau State Government has condemned the attacks, and Commissioner Joyce Ramnap appealed for calm among citizens.

“I appeal on behalf of the State Government deepest condolence to the victims of the recent incursions in Ruwi, Mangor, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai. I am calling for calm and restraint. To that end, I call upon our citizens to be cautious yet peaceful,” she said.

The commissioner praised the security forces’ response to the attacks and called on them to ensure the perpetrators face justice.

The attack, which happened recently, has sparked fears on the security situation in Plateau State, with the call for intensified security measures to protect communities. The incident has also highlighted the need for relief to be provided by emergency bodies to the displaced and victims. The denouncement of the attack and call for calm by the Plateau State Government is a step in the right direction, but more must be done to address the causes of the violence and punish perpetrators.
