Wike Vows to Recover Undeveloped Lands in Abuja, Urges Defaulters to Pay Up

to
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned that his administration would recover undeveloped plots of land in Abuja, whose owners have failed to pay their dues.
Wike made the assertion while addressing a group of people, where he called on the landowners to pay their levies and develop their plots.
The Minister was frustrated that majority of the landowners have not paid their dues, despite being given adequate time to make the payment. He clarified that the FCT administration needs money to develop infrastructure and provide amenities, but most of the landowners are not paying their own part.
Wike cited an instance where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had not paid for 23 years and a senator who was allocated a plot of land without developing it. He warned that his administration will not hesitate to revoke such plots and take immediate possession of them.
The Minister also talked about the International Conference Center, which was given to a politician to manage but was not well maintained. His government, he said, has taken over the center and is refurbishing it, but insisted that users will have to pay for its maintenance.
Wike’s declaration is seen as a move to crack down on defaulters and make landowners pay their own bit for the development of the FCT. He explained that his administration is not interested in playing politics or sentiments, but in doing what is right for the territory.
