Security Agencies Allay Fears of Clashes at Wike’s Bayelsa Rally as Pro-Diri Supporters Meet at Same Venue
Notwithstang slating two rallies by opposing factions on the same.date, time and venue, security agencies in Bayelsa State have assured the organizers of a rally to welcome Nyesom Wike to Yenagoa of adequate safety and security.
During a show of force in Yenagoa, the security agencies, comprising the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and other paramilitary organizations, reiterated their commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for the rally.
There is information that the program Wike group and another group backing Governor Duoye Diri have slated rallies at the same place, time and date thereby raising fears of clashes should both events hold.
According to a statement released by the security agencies, “We want to assure the organizers and participants of the rally that we have put in place adequate measures to ensure their safety and security. There is no cause for alarm, and we urge everyone to go about their activities without fear.”
The show of force, which was witnessed by our correspondent, saw security personnel patrolling the streets, with armored vehicles and surveillance equipment deployed to strategic locations.
The rally, which is expected to take place soon, is aimed at welcoming Nyesom Wike, a former Governor of Rivers State, to Yenagoa. The event has generated significant interest and excitement among residents and supporters of Wike.
Speaking to our correspondent, a spokesperson for the security agencies said, “We are fully prepared to provide a safe and secure environment for the rally. We have identified potential flashpoints and have put in place measures to mitigate any potential threats.”
The assurance by the security agencies has been welcomed by the organizers of the rally, who expressed gratitude for the efforts being made to ensure a peaceful and successful event.
