FG Closes Independence Bridge for Maintenance

The Federal Government has shut down the Independence Bridge (Marina bound) from April 1, 2025, for essential maintenance and rehabilitation works.

The closure, which will last until the end of May 2025, is to ensure the safety and stability of the infrastructure.

In accordance with the scheduled rehabilitation work, the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, announced that the closure would affect traffic from Ahmadu Bello Way and Adeola Odeku going to Marina, Eko Bridge, and Onikan by Zone 2.

Motorists have been advised to plan their journeys and use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion during the repair work.

Mrs. Kesha apologized for any inconvenience the closure would cause and thanked the public for cooperation and understanding. She re-iterated that the closure was unavoidable in order to ensure the safety and stability of the road network, and that the government was doing everything possible to minimize the effect on traffic flow.

The closure of the Independence Bridge is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to upgrade and maintain the country’s road infrastructure. The government has been undertaking repairs and rehabilitation of several bridges and roads in Lagos and other parts of the country to ensure safe and convenient transportation for commuters.

Motorists are advised to note the closure and plan in advance. There is an alternative route, and motorists are asked to use it to avoid traffic buildup. The Federal Government appreciates the understanding and cooperation of the public during this period and is working to get the maintenance and rehabilitation works done at the earliest.
