Crossdresser, Bob Risky Arest: Reality or April Fools Joke?

Nigerian crossdresser and socialite, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has triggered mix of confusion and intrigue when he took to Instagram to announce that he had been arrested by immigration officials upon his arrival in Nigeria.

However, given the timing of his post being April Fools day, it is not clear if it is real or a joke that comes with the first day of April in the calendar.

The socialite claimed to be unaware of the reason behind his detention, stating, “Guys, I have just been arrested by immigration in Nigeria. I don’t know what I did o.” This incident marks the latest chapter in Bobrisky’s ongoing struggles with the law, which have been making headlines for several months.

Bobrisky’s troubles with the law began to escalate in 2024, when he was sentenced to six months in prison for naira abuse in April of that year.

However, his imprisonment was soon marred by controversy, as allegations surfaced that he had bribed officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges.

The claims, which were sparked by a leaked audio from social media critic Martins Otse, also suggested that Bobrisky had served his sentence outside of prison.

Although Bobrisky denied these allegations, an investigative panel found that while he had not served his time outside of Kirikiri Prison, he had indeed received special privileges during his incarceration.

The drama surrounding Bobrisky’s legal troubles continued to unfold in the subsequent months. On October 21, 2024, he was detained by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at the Seme border, allegedly for attempting to flee the country amidst investigations into the bribery claims.

Just days later, on October 31, 2024, Bobrisky was arrested by the EFCC at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while trying to board a flight to London. He claimed to have been injured during the incident and was later released on bail on November 1, 2024. Shortly after, on November 4, 2024, Bobrisky left Nigeria, citing the need to attend to his “sanity and health” due to the ongoing legal issues and online backlash.

Given the timing of Bobrisky’s April 1, 2025, post, many have speculated that the announcement of his arrest might be an April Fool’s prank. However, without official confirmation from Bobrisky or the Nigerian authorities, the situation remains unclear. The immigration officials have not released a statement detailing the reason for this latest arrest, leaving room for speculation about the possible cause. It is possible that the arrest is related to unresolved legal matters or new issues, but until further details emerge, the exact reason remains unknown.

As the situation continues to unfold, many are eagerly awaiting updates from official sources or Bobrisky himself to shed more light on what transpired at the airport. The Nigerian public is no stranger to Bobrisky’s controversies, and this latest development is likely to generate significant interest and debate. Whether the arrest is indeed related to his ongoing legal troubles or a new issue altogether, one thing is certain – Bobrisky’s life continues to be a subject of fascination and intrigue for many in Nigeria and beyond.

In the coming days, it is expected that more information will emerge about the circumstances surrounding Bobrisky’s arrest. The Nigerian authorities may release a statement clarifying the reason for his detention, and Bobrisky himself may provide further details about his experience. As the story continues to unfold, it will be interesting to see how the situation develops and what implications it may have for Bobrisky’s future. One thing is certain, however – the drama surrounding Bobrisky’s life is far from over, and the Nigerian public will be watching with bated breath as the latest chapter in his saga plays out.
