Mob Lynching in Edo: Northern Elders Give Tinubu 14 Days to Act!

The brutal murder of 16 northern individuals in Uromi, Edo State, has sparked widespread outrage across the country. Northern elders are calling on President Bola Tinubu and Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to ensure that the victims’ bodies are recovered within 14 days and that those responsible are brought to justice.

The victims, primarily hunters, were en route from Port Harcourt to Kano for Sallah celebrations when local vigilantes stopped them, wrongly labeling them as kidnappers, leading to a mob lynching. This tragic event has faced intense condemnation from political leaders, security authorities, and human rights organizations.

In a State House press release, President Tinubu denounced the incident as a shocking display of jungle justice and called for a thorough investigation by security forces. He reiterated that every Nigerian has the right to travel freely throughout the country without fear of attack due to biased assumptions.

Governor Okpebholo characterized the killings as “barbaric and unacceptable” and promised that the Edo State Government will collaborate with law enforcement to ensure that those responsible are held accountable. Reports indicate that more than 30 suspects have already been apprehended in connection to the incident.

The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) and the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) have also demanded justice, labeling the killings a severe violation of human rights and urging the federal government to take swift action to prevent further ethnic and regional violence.

While security forces increase their efforts, the families of the victims continue to grieve, insisting on the immediate recovery of their loved ones’ remains. As northern leaders ramp up their demands, the next few days will be crucial in determining the speed of justice and the restoration of trust within Nigeria’s diverse society.

This incident highlights the pressing need for enhanced security measures and public awareness initiatives to prevent future incidents of mob violence throughout the nation.
