Marmoush Propels Manchester City to FA Cup Semis After Haaland’s Injury

Bournemouth, 30 March, 2025 — Manchester City has advanced to the FA Cup semi-finals following a hard-fought 2-1 win against Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium. The match was marked by a significant incident involving a key injury to star striker Erling Haaland, who left the field limping before teammate Omar Marmoush secured the win for the visitors.

The match began at a fast pace, with Manchester City quickly gaining possession, but they struggled to convert early chances. Their best opportunity arose in the 18th minute when Haaland was awarded a penalty after being fouled in the box. However, the Norwegian ace, who has been in exceptional form this season, had his penalty saved by Bournemouth’s Kepa Arrizabalaga, keeping the score level.

Just a few moments later, Bournemouth unexpectedly took the lead. In the 25th minute, forward Evanilson capitalized on a defensive blunder by City, grabbing an unclaimed ball and firing it past goalkeeper Ederson to give Bournemouth a 1-0 advantage, much to the delight of their fans.

Despite the setback, Manchester City did not lose heart and were rewarded for their persistence shortly before halftime. In the 44th minute, Haaland, known for his finishing skills, scored his 30th goal of the season, perfectly connecting with a well-placed cross to equalize the game at 1-1 as the teams headed into the break.

The second half commenced with both sides eager for the win, but Manchester City suffered a major blow in the 57th minute when Haaland, visibly in pain, exited the game with what seemed to be an ankle injury. This forced City supporters into concern over how they would cope without their star player.

Before Haaland’s exit, though, substitute Omar Marmoush stepped up to save the day. Coming on in the 61st minute, he immediately made an impact, receiving a pass from Nico O’Reilly and unleashing a powerful shot that found the net, putting City ahead 2-1. This goal sent City fans into euphoria and secured the victory.

Despite Bournemouth’s efforts to equalize in the closing moments, Manchester City’s defense held strong. This win marks City’s seventh consecutive appearance in the FA Cup semi-finals, emphasizing their dominance in the tournament in recent years.

Looking ahead, City will prepare for their semi-final clash against Nottingham Forest at Wembley Stadium. Meanwhile, Bournemouth will reflect on their missed opportunities but can take pride in their spirited performance against one of Europe’s top clubs.

With Haaland’s injury still a concern, City faces an anxious wait to assess the severity of his condition. Nevertheless, Marmoush’s crucial goal and the team’s determination will provide some solace as they look toward the remainder of the season.
