Canadians Cancelling Visas to America in Protest of Trump’s Policies

A growing number of Canadians are canceling their trips to the United States in protest of the presidency of Donald Trump, with many citing his controversial policies and behavior as the reason for their decision.

According to a recent survey, over 20% of Canadians who had planned to visit the US in the next year have canceled their trips, with many more considering doing the same. The survey, conducted by a leading Canadian travel agency, found that the main reasons for canceling were concerns over Trump’s policies on immigration, trade, and human rights.

“I was planning to visit my friends in New York City, but I just can’t bring myself to spend my money in a country that is being led by someone who is so divisive and hateful,” said Emily Chen, a Toronto resident who had planned to visit the US in the spring. “I’m disappointed in the direction that the US is heading, and I don’t want to support it with my tourism dollars.”

Chen is not alone in her decision. Many Canadians are taking to social media to express their outrage over Trump’s policies and to announce their plans to boycott travel to the US.

The hashtag #BoycottUSA has been trending on Twitter, with many Canadians sharing their reasons for canceling their trips.

“I was planning to visit Disney World with my family, but we’ve decided to go to Disneyland Paris instead,” said Sarah Lee, a mother of two from Vancouver. “We don’t want to support a country that is treating its citizens and visitors with such disrespect and hostility.”

The Canadian government has also been critical of Trump’s policies, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau speaking out against the US president’s travel ban and trade tariffs. The tensions between the two countries have led to a significant decline in Canadian tourism to the US, with many Canadians opting to stay closer to home or visit other destinations.

The US travel industry is taking notice of the decline in Canadian tourism, with many businesses and destinations reporting a significant drop in bookings from Canadian visitors. The US Travel Association has estimated that the decline in Canadian tourism could cost the US economy over $1 billion in lost revenue.

“We understand that the current political climate is causing some Canadians to rethink their travel plans, and we respect their decision,” said a spokesperson for the US Travel Association. “However, we hope that Canadians will not let politics get in the way of experiencing all that the US has to offer. We value our Canadian visitors and hope that they will return to the US soon.”

Despite the efforts of the US travel industry to woo back Canadian visitors, many Canadians remain resolute in their decision to boycott travel to the US. For Chen, the decision is a matter of principle.

“I’m not going to support a country that is so clearly opposed to the values of diversity, inclusivity, and respect that Canada holds dear,” she said. “I’ll wait until the US has a leader who shares our values before I consider visiting again.”
