Wike, Not Okowa was Recommended as Atiku”s Running Mate in 2023, Says Report

Factors that shaped how Alhaji Atiku Abubakar chose his running mate in 2023 has emerged.
According to a post, Atiku stated that he picked former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, as his running mate following the recommendation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) committee.
The committee report supposedly ranked Okowa number one, then Nyesom Wike as the second and former Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel, as the third.
Atiku had reportedly rationalized his selection of Okowa by stating that he was the top choice of the committee.
But the emergence of the report of the committee clearly contradicts his statement . A recent letter which was shown in the post clearly indicates that current FCT minister nyesom wike was in fact the first choice which was made by the party senior offficials.
While some have been surprised that Atiku would assert that he acted according to the recommendation of the committee, others have commended the former Vice President for adhering to the party’s decision-making process.
As Ramadan comes to an end, most are looking back at the value of integrity and honesty in leadership. The debate surrounding Atiku’s vice president selection process is a reminder of the need for accountability and transparency in politics.
As Nigeria goes into the future, it is clear that the country’s leaders will be called upon to provide high standards of transparency and accountability. The controversy regarding Atiku’s choice of running mate is a reminder that the public expects integrity and honesty from leaders.
