In a surprise turn of events, Nigerian actress and model, Annie Idibia has made a name change to Annie Uwana Macaulay legally, in what is a dramatic turn in both her public and private life.
The name change comes after emotional revelation by her husband, legendary Nigerian musician 2Baba (Innocent Idibia), that they have been leading separate lives and have filed for divorce.
In January 2025, 2Baba posted on social media that he and Annie had been separated for some time and were currently in the process of breaking their marriage. He wrote, “I and Annie Macaulay have been separated for a while now and are now divorced.” Although the post was later deleted, 2Baba insisted on his sentiments in an on-stage video, claiming that the message was not a hack.
He went on, “No one has hacked my account. I said what I said. I come in peace.”
The news soon elicited responses from the fans and supporters, the majority of whom had been wishing the couple well. In response to that, Annie went to her personal Instagram thanking individuals for the love she has been receiving amidst this challenging time.
She wrote a heartfelt message thanking her family, friends, and well-wishers who have stood by her. In a public declaration of her decision to drop her husband’s surname, she said in her closing sentence, “Lots of LOVE. Annie Uwana Macaulay.”
This name change is not as new to Annie as it may seem. In September 2021, she had temporarily removed “Idibia” from her Instagram bio, opting for her maiden name, “Annie Macauley.” This followed a public fight with her husband, during which Annie had accused 2Baba of continued dating of his baby mama, Pero Adeniyi. She had also made allegations of being neglected and not loved by 2Baba’s family, which she publicized in a series of tearful updates.
Annie’s dropping of “Idibia” from her name is a strong step in her personal life as she attempts to disentangle the knot of her marriage and public life.
