FG Makes Good it’s Promise as Corps Members Start Getting N77,000 Allowance Alerts
The Federal Government has kept to its promise of paying Corps Members the new allowance of N77,000 monthly with arrears also inclusive.
The decision to start paying the revised monthly allowance of ₦77,000 to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members marks a significant development in the country’s efforts to support its youth.
This increase, which more than doubles the previous allowance of ₦33,000, is a direct response to the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024 and reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that corps members can maintain a decent standard of living amidst rising costs.
The NYSC is a mandatory one-year national service program for all Nigerian graduates under the age of 30.
Established in 1973, its primary aim is to promote national unity, foster social and economic development, and encourage young Nigerians to contribute to the country’s growth.
Over the years, the program has played a crucial role in nation-building, with corps members deployed across various sectors, including education, healthcare, and community development.
However, the previous allowance of ₦33,000 had become increasingly inadequate due to inflation and the rising cost of living in Nigeria. Corps members often faced significant challenges in meeting their basic needs, let alone saving or investing in their future.
The call for an increase in the allowance had been ongoing, with many arguing that it was essential to reflect the current economic realities and ensure that young graduates could serve their country without undue financial leadership.
