Senator Natasha Going as Constituents Obtained More Than 50% Registered Voters Signature for her Recall

Constituents of the Kogi Central Senatorial District have submitted a petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) requesting for the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The petition, filed at INEC claims loss of confidence in the senator for gross misconduct, abuse of office, evasion of due process, and a pattern of dishonesty.
The constituents, in their claim, averred that the actions of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan have not only shamefully brought disrepute to the people of Kogi Central but have also eroded the integrity of the Nigerian Senate and Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

The recall is being sought under Section 69 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (As Amended), and INEC’s Regulations and Guidelines for Recall Petitions.
The petitioners claimed they gathered signatures of more than one-half of registered voters in Kogi Central, the constitutional requirement for a recall petition.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was, on October 31, 2023, declared winner of the February 25, 2023, Kogi Central Senatorial election by the Abuja Court of Appeal. But it appears that her people no longer trust her to represent them well.
Petitioners are urging INEC to forthwith initiate the constitutional and procedural process of recall to oust Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan from office and declare the seat vacant.
