Obidents prefer Hero Beer Investment to Akpabio’s International Stadium
In what appears as an online debate, Obident movement supporters are submitting that Peter Obi’s Hero Beer Investment was preferable to the building of the state of the art Stadium in Uyo by the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio.
The Uyo stadium hosts a lot of national games and tournaments especially the National team matches (Super Eagles).
The Stadium in Uyo, which has been overall rated as one of the most normal and functional stadia in Nigeria, has hosted a number of national and international games and events, some of which include well-profiled football games and track competitions. Its state-of-the-art facilities and skyscraper architecture have made it an absolute favorite to sports enthusiasts as well as competing athletes.
Despite the overwhelming evidence, Obidients continue to insist that Peter Obi not building a stadium, and choosing build a brewery for Hero Beer factory in Anambra State had better effect.
While the Hero Beer factory is indeed a remarkable achievement, it pales in comparison to the scale of the Stadium in Uyo, which has become an icon of national pride and center for sports development in the country.
The Stadium in Uyo issue illustrates how perilous misinformation is and why fact-checking must be done in public discourse. It also poses questions regarding the Obidient movement’s credibility and how far it would stretch to twist facts for political purposes
Lastly, the Stadium in Uyo was built by Godswill Akpabio, and not Peter Obi, as spread by the Obidient movement. While Peter Obi’s statistics, like the building of the Hero Beer plant, are credible, they have little to show in comparison with the legacy of the Stadium in Uyo, which is a national symbol and pride.
In the wake of the blinding debate raging in the public domain, fiction should be distinguished from reality and that truth must be allowed to hold sway.
