Coalition to Unseat Tinubu Driven By Common Vision for Good Governance Says Utomi.

Political realignments in a move to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027 general election is driven by common quest for food governance and steer Nigeria on the path of development, Professor Pat Utomi has explained .

The group is made of disenchanted members of the All Progressives Congress, APC and a broad based coalition of several political parties.

According to Utomi, leader of the National Consultative Front (NCFront), the coalition is driven by a shared vision of fostering a disciplined, transparent, and people-centered government.

“This is serious business. Nigeria is on the brink at a time of a changing global order,” Utomi said in an interview with a national daily.

“We are focusing on core influence groups within parties, and there are good people in both the APC and PDP who share our values and development strategy. They have significant followings and believe there is a better way forward,” he explained.

The coalition’s formation follows recent announcements by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other opposition leaders, including Peter Obi’s Labour Party, who have expressed their commitment to a united opposition front.

Key stakeholders from across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, including former governors, party leaders, and civil society groups, are reportedly involved in behind-the-scenes consultations to solidify the alliance.

Utomi emphasized that the coalition aims to establish a government of national unity focused on advancing the common good.

“We need a developmental state that brings progress to every nook and cranny of Nigeria, not egotists and narcissists looking for state capture to burnish bloated personal accounts while the country slides into an economic abyss,” he asserted.

The NCFront leader also stressed the importance of collective decision-making within the coalition, moving away from the centralized leadership models of the past.

“No more of the ‘Baba sope’ approach that hindered collective good in previous rescue missions. Decisions must be made collectively, and we will not be victims of groupthink anymore,” he added.

The coalition’s goals include accelerating constitutional reforms, promoting democratic transparency, and addressing the collapse of cultural values in Nigeria.

Utomi also emphasized the need to recruit capable and values-driven individuals into public office, stating, “The change we deserve is about a core of self-sacrificing people focused on disciplined organization to move the apparatus of cooperation and state authority.”

With plans to unveil the mega coalition in June, opposition parties and discontented APC members are intensifying efforts to finalize the alliance. Northern stakeholders, in particular, have expressed strong support for the coalition, citing concerns over the Tinubu administration’s policies disproportionately affecting their region.

As Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections, the formation of this coalition signals a significant shift in the political landscape, with opposition forces uniting to present a formidable challenge to the ruling party. The question on everyone’s mind is: can this coalition bring about the change that Nigerians have been yearning for?

“This is a welcome development. We have been waiting for a united opposition front to challenge the APC’s dominance. We are ready to work with the coalition to bring about change in 2027,” said a spokesperson for the Labour Party.

However, officials of the ruling party have insisted that “The APC is not perturbed by the formation of this coalition. We are confident that our performance in office will speak for itself, and Nigerians will reject the opposition’s empty promises.”

A human rights leader who didn’t want to be named sais”This coalition is a step in the right direction. However, it is crucial that they prioritize the interests of Nigerians and not just their own political ambitions,” said a civil society leader.
