13 Year Old Student Shot for Climbing Fence to Pick Ball Dies
In a disturbing incident of unbridled violence at a government school in Owerri, a 13-year-old boy named Paul who was shot by a landlord for climbing his fence to pick football has died.
He died after a surgery was carried out on him to determine stoppage of functions of his alimentary canal.
The boy, a JSS1 student, was playing football with his friends in the school compound during the day when one of his friends kicked the ball into the landlord’s compound, which was also a private school and a gym.
The boy climbed over the fence to retrieve the ball after pleading with the landlord to no avail to throw the ball back to him.
But in a cruel twist of events, the landlord, instead of helping the boy, pulled out an AK-47 rifle and shot him. The boy fell to the ground, and his friends were in a state of panic.
The landlord was later arrested by the police, and investigations are currently underway.
The boy’s guardian, Jonathan Odikanwa, explained that he was worried about Paul’s condition and was more keen on his son surviving than pursuing the issue.
Paul later died at the hospital, where physicians tried to determine the cause of his bowel movements not functioning, even though no bullet was found in his body.
In solidarity, the students from Paul’s school marched to the landlord’s home and gym and vandalized his properties in protest for his actions.
The incident has outraged people, and the community is calling for justice to be done.
