Corps Members to Receive N77,000 Allowance March

The National Youth Service Corps has said that payment of N77,000 monthly allowance slated to have commenced in February 2025 will now begin in March.

Director General of the Corps, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed had announced that the Federal Government approved an increase in the monthly allowance for corps members from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000 to take effect from February 2025.

Nonetheless, as of March 2025, corps members confirmed their continuing receipt of the original allowance of ₦33,000, without a definitive reason for that delay.

The NYSC has cited funding challenges, presumably related to the budget deficits, as its rationale for the postponement, saying they are “working on the cash backing, and the new Director General is still understanding the situation.” The NYSC has requested more time in the process and states it is actively working on the issue.

The delay has resulted in corps members expressing anger, and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for an inquiry into and has classified this matter as a gross injustice to corps members.

In summary, the monthly allowance for NYSC corps members was approved in early 2025 at ₦77,000, but the payments have not yet started broken down due to the delay in financing and the government has not given any indication as to the timing of when the new allowance would begin.
