Agreement is Agreement, Says Asari Dokubo
Asari Dokubo, a well-known voice of Niger Delta activism, has recently spoken out regarding the political situation in Rivers State around the importance of agreements and honoring them. He expressed disappointment in the decision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to dissolve the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, calling it a “total betrayal” of the people of Niger Delta. He described it as something significant for Niger Delta, since it was brought into existence by several sacrifices by Niger Delta communities. He also pointed out that the decision is consistent with a pattern of attempts to undermine the interest of the region.
In a similar development, Dokubo has lambasted ex-Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike for purportedly stepping out of line and meddling within the state’s sphere. He asked President Tinubu to step in and tell him to stick to the agreements and do nothing. Dokubo lamented that not doing anything would make matters in the region worse.
These remarks accentuate his posture in guaranteeing that the agreements and obligations made in relation to the Niger Delta region are indeed implemented.
