State of Emergency Declaration Saved Fubara from Losing out in Power Game says Fabgemi.

The Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) has said that the state of emergency declaration in Rivers State by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has saved Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended governor from sure impeachment.

Based on that, he said that it was like a compromise position of sorts which was in the best interest of the embattled governor and his deputy as there was a possibility of sorting out issues before the end of his elected tenure.

Responding to questions at the State House yesterday, Fagbemi said, “well, it may be a compromise position since an impeachment notice had been served him. If it was allowed to go through the entire process, he would have been impeached but this is like a compromise position as if things are sorted out, he may still complete what remains of his tenure after the emergency rule”.

Many had wondered if given the number of senior lawyers that have thrashed the declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State as flying in the face of the constitution. if the President consulted the Attorney General before proceeding with it.
